Frequently Asked Questions.

I like to keep things simple and transparent and I also like to offer everyone the same high standard of ceremony. I don’t charge any extra for fuel or travel and there are no hidden costs.

Wedding ceremonies= £735 (£250 upfront payment to ‘save the date’ then the balance at least a week before the wedding day)

Naming ceremonies = £300 (£75 upfront payment to ‘save the date’ then £100 on delivery of the script and the final balance at least a week before the Naming day). This is based on one ‘namee’ if you have multiple ‘namees’ in a ceremony these are charged at an additional £75 each

Important note: You may have seen that, as of October 2025, the UK Government has committed to the legalisation of Humanist Marriage in England and Wales. Timings remain unknown, however, if there is any option to conduct a legal ceremony for a wedding already booked then this will be discussed with you and any additional charges associated with this will be communicated up front before deciding how you wish to proceed.

I will often help to supply props for your wedding or naming ceremony such as ribbons for handfasting or you are welcome to borrow my Quaich (traditional Scottish ‘loving cup’). All of this will be discussed with you in plenty of time before your ceremony and I can recommend suppliers for anything you need to source yourself.

Full details on my fees can be found on my pricing page.

Every ceremony, be it a wedding ceremony or naming ceremony, takes a significant amount of time and I pride myself on delivering a consistently high standard and quality. I don’t give anything other than my all and as I am sure you wouldn’t want anything other than the very best service, a reduction in fees is not something I able to offer. I am, however, more than happy to look at alternative payment plans (for example monthly instalments) if my pricing structure doesn’t work for you. Please just reach out to discuss further.

The only reduction vs the above is for genuine elopements (where it is just the two of you with no witnesses or guests).

I am a proud supporter of Gift of a wedding who provide weddings for the terminally ill, having gifted my services to them on more than one occasion. Annually I also choose a charity where I donate part of my fee, previous recipients have been the Terence Higgins trust and MND research and this year it will be St Leonard’s Hospice in York.

Every script is written from scratch and is 100% bespoke and this takes a certain amount of work and commitment from both sides. I will be guided by you and will tailor accordingly but generally it involves the below:

  • An initial meeting for us to get to know each other (expect some prework for this!) and for you to share your ideas for the day.
  • Bespoke script which you can tweak as you wish until you are 100% happy.
  • As much contact with me before the day as you need, my virtual door is always open!
  • A meeting at your venue and/or a rehearsal should this be necessary depending on the complexity of the ceremony (wedding ceremonies only).
  • Tons of help and advice on any props you may need. I will either supply these or let you know where you can source them from.
  • My travel to and from any of the above and the venue on the day. There is no extra charge for mileage if within my working area, see details on this on the next question below.
  • Delivery of a stunning ceremony that wows your guests and sets the tone for the rest of the celebrations that follow.
  • Vow cards, guideparent promises and readings printed, one less thing off your admin to do list!
  • A beautiful presentation copy of the script as a keepsake.

I am based in Leeds and lead wedding and naming ceremonies all over Yorkshire and the North of England including weddings in the beautiful Lake District as I am fortunate to have access to accommodation up there. I can venture further afield for weddings depending on when and where you are looking at so, if you think I might be the best wedding Celebrant for you, then please do get in touch, even if you think I might be out of your area. I will be open with you right from the start on whether I can cover your chosen location and any expenses in me doing so. If it doesn’t work for one of us, I will always do my best to find you an alternative Humanist Wedding Celebrant who can help you create your perfect Humanist ceremony.

I do offer a ‘script only’ service if you have a friend or family member you want to ask to lead the ceremony or perhaps you are getting married abroad. Please contact me to discuss as there will be reduction in my usual fee for this as I am not required on the day, however, it is important to note that the majority of my work is done prior to the wedding day itself, gathering the content for the script beforehand. It is also worth fully considering if having a friend or family member vs a professional Celebrant is the best option for your ceremony, advice on this can be found in my Blogs. I don’t offer a service that coaches or mentors someone to write or deliver ceremonies as this is very much the domain of my esteemed colleagues in the Humanist Ceremonies Training team. We Humanist Celebrants train for months and hone our skills over years so the only true way to guarantee full professional Humanist Celebrant quality is to book one :-)

In England and Wales, sadly Humanist wedding ceremonies do not (yet) have full legal recognition so this means that, whilst your Humanist ceremony is very much your true wedding, it doesn’t constitute a legal marriage. As of October 2025, the UK Government have committed to legal Humanist marriage and a consultation will take place in early 2026. The timings of when it will come into law are, however, unclear so in the meantime, in order to make your marriage legal, you will still need to attend the local registry office or instruct a registrar in addition to your Humanist ceremony.

How you choose to do this is totally up to you. Some couples want to celebrate as another occasion and some just want the ‘no frills’ legal signing. If you are looking for the latter then please do ensure you look our for and that the registry office offers you the basic ‘2+2’ wedding ceremony option which should be around £100. They don’t always make this obvious so ask for it if you can’t find it and I am always on hand to help support you navigating this!

Most certainly! I have and will continue to do so. I am passionate about celebrating all love and I welcome all couples. You will be treated as individuals without labels and I am always careful to check what pronouns and nouns (e.g. bride/ groom) you want to use. I pride myself on being inclusive but I am not complacent and continually find ways to educate myself on all aspects of diversity and inclusion. Please do ask me more about this in your connection call with me.

I work at a variety of different venues from village halls to stately homes, farms to woodland and everything in-between. There is an abundance of great wedding venues across Yorkshire so if you haven’t already chosen a venue and would like some suggestions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or check out some of my favourite wedding venues in my Blogs.

Should something unexpected arise such as illness or a family emergency meaning that I can’t make your wedding day, as I am part of the Yorkshire network of Humanist celebrants, I am confident that I can call on one of my esteemed colleagues to step in deliver the script that I have written for you. More in my T&Cs here

If something happens beyond your control, like the Covid pandemic a few years back, I will do my best to accommodate any rearrangements wherever possible- full details on my T&Cs here. Nevertheless, to ensure you are fully covered in this eventuality, I do recommend that you consider taking out wedding insurance to give you the most reassurance and protection.

I totally understand that circumstances or what you want from your wedding day can change. What happens in this situation will depend how long it is since you booked me as I do offer a cooling off period. After this time, I may have turned down other ceremonies on your date and/ or started working on your ceremony. What this means is fully covered in my T&Cs which you can find here

However works best for you! For details of all my Social media and lots of ways to connect with me please check out my contact page here

I studied French and Spanish at University so if you would like these languages used into your day, this is something I would love to do! As well as these two languages, I have also incorporated elements of Italian, Welsh, Gaelic, Dutch and Swedish in ceremonies so will happily turn my hand (or rather tongue!) to most languages.

Ensuring that your wedding or naming ceremony is inclusive and welcoming for you and all your guests is a top priority for me. I will always ask in advance about any additional needs or requirements and discuss what we can do to ensure we best address these. This can and has looked like; ensuring your vows are in the best format for ADHD, having a pre-ceremony call with an autistic child, working with a venue to understand their wheelchair access and procedures and producing written copies for guests who are hard of hearing or non-native English speakers. For more on this, please check out my Blog post.

Humanist ceremonies are non-religious, however, exactly what you include can depend on the individual Humanist Celebrant. Personally, I am relaxed if you want to include a religious reading, poem or passage. As a Humanist and out of respect for those who hold a faith, I am neither inclined nor qualified to deliver prayers or touch on anything that is classed as religious doctrine, however, I am more than happy for you to invite someone who is to deliver this portion of the ceremony (for example one couple asked a friend who is a Reverend to do a religious address) and there are certainly no rules, as you get with registrar ceremonies whereby you can’t have any reference to ‘religious’ words in any songs or readings (e.g. heaven, blessing, soulmates etc.) I am pretty pragmatic about this and if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me
